The joint venture between the Central Government and the Andhra Pradesh government overseeing the Hyderabad-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (HBIC) is set to issue tenders for selecting an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor. Union Minister Piyush Goyal disclosed this development in response to a query from Congress MP Anil Kumar Mandadi in the Rajya Sabha.
Goyal highlighted that the HBIC project, initially announced in 2007, remained stagnant until 2014, with real progress beginning only in 2020 when the corridor received formal approval. He noted that the load specifications for the project were officially released on August 28, 2024. The Andhra Pradesh government will oversee the tendering process, ensuring transparency in selecting the EPC contractors, Goyal assured, according to media reports.
Hyderabad-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor
The Hyderabad-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor aims to enhance industrial connectivity between the two cities by establishing a robust infrastructure network. Notably, HBIC will serve as a critical link connecting two major regional industrial corridors—the Chennai-Bangalore Industrial Corridor (CBIC) and the Visakhapatnam-Chennai Industrial Corridor (VCIC). This integration is anticipated to drive economic growth and attract significant investments across multiple sectors.
A key feature of the HBIC is the Orvakal Node in Andhra Pradesh’s Kurnool district. Spanning 4,742 acres across three land parcels near National Highway 40, this node is strategically located to connect Hyderabad and Chennai, passing through towns like Kurnool, Nandyal, Kadapa, and Tirupati.
The geographical advantages of the Orvakal Node promise seamless connectivity to major industrial and urban centers. Once operational, it is expected to become a major industrial hub, creating jobs and boosting regional economic growth.
