FIDE CEO slams Magnus Carlsen after he questioned Indian Stalwart Viswanathan Anand’s position post disqualification says, ‘won’t keep silent…’

In a recent exchange, FIDE CEO Emil Sutovsky has launched another scathing attack on chess champion Magnus Carlsen, following the Norwegian’s harsh comments about Viswanathan Anand. Carlsen had publicly criticized Anand, the Deputy President of the global chess governing body, claiming that the Indian grandmaster was unfit for his role.

Carlsen’s Criticism of Anand

Carlsen expressed his thoughts in an interview with Take Take Take, stating, “For all his good qualities, he was not ready for this job. That’s what I feel.” The comment caused ripples within the chess community, drawing a strong response from Sutovsky, who did not hold back in his criticism of Carlsen’s remarks.

Sutovsky Attacks Carlsen and Chess Streamers

Emil Sutovsky extended his criticism to Carlsen’s supporters in the chess streaming community, accusing them of aiding the world champion’s agenda. Sutovsky pointed out how certain platforms and streamers have downplayed the significance of Carlsen’s comments, especially regarding his remarks on Anand.

“It is funny how some platforms/streamers downplay the ‘we can just keep making draws’ case. Exactly as they downplayed Magnus’ attacks on Vishy 3 days before. As it did not happen,” Sutovsky wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “Of course, now they will try to shift focus or pretend it was just a joke.”

A Controversial PR Strategy

Sutovsky further criticized what he sees as a strategic manipulation of public opinion. “Entire PR strategy is in play,” Sutovsky added, explaining how Carlsen and his associates use various platforms to influence public perception. “So, first you own part of the major platform/company, then you employ influential people on your projects, then you invite players to the Tour you own based on your judgment, and then all these quasi-independents are on your side, and you can sort of do whatever you want.”

However, Sutovsky warned that the chess world cannot be entirely controlled, especially with the rise of social media. “Social Media can’t be controlled, and it is all the rage,” Sutovsky remarked.

He concluded, “FIDE also won’t keep silent. At least I won’t – and I am there to stay for quite some time.”

Carlsen Responds: “Unreasonable”

Magnus Carlsen has since responded to Sutovsky’s criticism, calling him unreasonable. “I don’t think that man can be reasoned with in any way, and we’ve told them such as well,” Carlsen said in his Take Take Take interview when asked about the controversy surrounding Sutovsky’s comments on the “jeans controversy.”Carlsen’s Rapport with Dvorkovich vs Sutovsky

During the interview, Carlsen also discussed his relationship with FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich, contrasting it with his strained rapport with Sutovsky. “Dvorkovich has generally been true to his word when we’ve talked to him. Sutovsky, not so much,” Carlsen explained. “So that’s sort of the difference why Sutovsky is still employed by FIDE.”

Carlsen added that, despite Sutovsky’s good qualities, he found his interactions with the FIDE CEO frustrating. “I have no idea. I’m sure he has some good qualities, but from people I’ve dealt with, nobody’s had particularly good experiences with him, and it’s honestly frustrating, but it’s the way it is,” Carlsen stated.

The ongoing feud between the two figures continues to dominate chess news, as their tensions show no sign of abating.
