Cristiano Ronaldo had recently branded the Saudi Pro League as better than the Ligue 1. Ronaldo’s comment did draw the attention of others with many reacting to the Portuguese legend’s point of view.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who previously plied his trade for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the Ligue 1, has now shared his take on this matter. Reacting to Ronaldo’s claim, the Swedish goal scorer said, as per Goal, “There is nothing to answer – you can’t debate something when there is no evidence for one side. PSG is one of the great clubs in Europe in a very good league. Maybe only Spain and England can for sure say they are a superior league. I can’t even reply to a suggestion that the Saudi League is superior – I won’t even waste my time.”
Speaking at the 2024 Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai, Ronaldo talked about the quality of the Saudi Pro League. In a bid to bolster his claim, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner even furnished some arguments.
“The Saudi Pro League is better than Ligue 1, of course. I’m not saying that because I play here. I don’t care what people think about it. Players should come here and they will see quickly. Just try to do sprints at 38, 39, 40 degrees… Come and you will see. If you don’t believe me, come. In France, they only have PSG, everyone else is finished. Nobody can beat them because they have the most money and the best players,” Ronaldo said, as per Goal.
Having brought an abrupt end to his second spell at Manchester United, Cristiano Ronaldo left Old Trafford and joined Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Nassr. A report published by Marca recently claimed that Ronaldo is going to play for another season in Saudi Arabia. The article went on to state that Ronaldo renewed his contract for one more season for 183 million euros.
