Bosiram Siram Appointed New Arunachal Congress Chief, Replaces Nabam Tuki in Major Party Reshuffle

In a significant political development, the Indian National Congress has appointed senior leader Bosiram Siram as the new President of the Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), replacing veteran politician and former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki with immediate effect.

The announcement, made by AICC General Secretary (Organisation) K.C. Venugopal, is seen as a strategic move to revitalize the party’s presence in the northeastern frontier state, where the BJP has been steadily expanding its influence.

🧭 Who is Bosiram Siram?

  • A seasoned leader from East Siang district, Siram is a two-time MLA from Pasighat East (ST) and a former Education Minister of Arunachal Pradesh.
  • Known for his grassroots connect and administrative acumen, he played a key role in improving infrastructure in education, power, and water supply during his tenure.
  • He contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Arunachal East as the Congress candidate and secured over 1.15 lakh votes (35.6%), finishing second to BJP MP Tapir Gao.

🔄 Why the Change Matters

Nabam Tuki, who led the party through turbulent times marked by defections and internal dissent, has been appreciated for his contributions. However, the Congress high command believes Siram’s clean image and tribal outreach can help rebuild the party’s grassroots network ahead of upcoming elections.

Party insiders say Siram’s leadership will focus on:

  • Strengthening block and district-level units
  • Addressing tribal and rural concerns
  • Reconnecting with youth and first-time voters

The leadership change has been welcomed by Congress workers across Arunachal Pradesh, many of whom see it as a timely course correction.
