As speculation swirls around Thalapathy Vijay’s cinematic farewell, co-star Mamitha Baiju has offered fresh insight into whether Jana Nayagan will truly be the actor’s last film before he transitions fully into politics. Speaking at the Kerala Carnival in Ireland, Mamitha revealed that Vijay himself is undecided, saying his future in films will depend on the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
“I casually asked him if Jana Nayagan is really his last movie. Vijay sir candidly said, ‘It depends on how the elections go. We’ll see what happens,’” Mamitha shared during the event.
🎬 Emotional Farewell or Political Pause?
Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan is a political action drama featuring Vijay as a fearless police officer. The film, slated for release on January 9, 2026, has been widely reported as Vijay’s swan song before he focuses on his political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, launched in February 2024.
Mamitha also described the emotional atmosphere on set during the final days of filming. “Everyone got emotional, including Vijay sir. On the last day, he was so moved that he couldn’t even pose for pictures with the cast and crew,” she said.
