India’s javelin ace Neeraj Chopra has set his sights on a podium finish at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, buoyed by his recent 90m-plus throw and a gold medal at the Paris Diamond League. The two-time Olympic medallist is riding high on form and confidence as he prepares for the season’s biggest challenge.
90m Mark Breached, Focus Now on Tokyo
Chopra, who achieved his long-awaited 90m throw at the Doha Diamond League, followed it up with a commanding 88.16m win in Paris, defeating German rival Julian Weber. Speaking ahead of the Golden Spike Athletics Meet in Ostrava, the 27-year-old said, “I’ve already thrown 90m this year after some technical improvements. Now, the main goal is obviously the World Championships in Tokyo.”
Training Under Legend Jan Železný
Chopra is currently training under Czech javelin legend Jan Železný, a three-time Olympic gold medallist. Their recent sessions in Nymburk, Czech Republic, have focused on refining Chopra’s technique and mental preparation. “I’m really happy to work with such a great coach. I feel ready,” he added.
No Pressure, Just Precision
Despite the buzz around his 90m feat, Chopra is keeping expectations in check. “I don’t want to put pressure on myself for 90m every time. I’ll try really hard, but the focus is on consistency and results,” he said.
Tokyo: A Special Stage
The Tokyo venue holds sentimental value for Chopra, who won Olympic gold there in 2020. “When I was a kid, I watched legends like Usain Bolt compete here. It’s special to return with a chance to win again,” he shared.
The World Athletics Championships 2025 will be held in Tokyo from September 13 to 21, and Chopra’s form suggests he’s a strong contender to add another global medal to his growing legacy.
