In a major move to revamp Uttar Pradesh’s dairy sector, the Yogi Adityanath government has transferred the management of key dairy units to the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), pledging timely payments and better returns for farmers. The decision is part of a broader strategy to boost rural incomes and modernize dairy infrastructure across the state.
MoU Signed for Four Major Facilities
The Uttar Pradesh Cooperative Dairy Federation (PCDF) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with NDDB for the operation of:
- Kanpur Dairy Plant (₹160.84 crore; 4 lakh litres/day capacity)
- Gorakhpur Dairy Plant (₹61.80 crore; 1 lakh litres/day)
- Kannauj Dairy Plant (₹88.05 crore; 1 lakh litres/day)
- Ambedkar Nagar Animal Feed Unit (₹18.44 crore; 100 MT/day)
These units, previously underutilized due to high costs and lack of buyers, are now expected to operate at full capacity under NDDB’s management.
Farmers to Gain from Transparency and Efficiency
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized that the partnership will bring technical expertise, transparency, and professionalism, ensuring fair pricing and stable market access for dairy farmers. The move also aims to empower women, with successful models like the Balini Milk Producer Company in Jhansi serving as inspiration.
No Extra Burden on State, Revenue Sharing Ensured
The agreement ensures that there will be no additional financial burden on the state government. Revenue generated will be equitably shared between the state and farmers, while local cooperatives will play an active role in operations.
