RJD Gains Ground Ahead of Bihar Polls as Key NDA Leaders Defect

In a major political shake-up ahead of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has gained significant momentum with the defection of several prominent leaders from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Among the most notable is Renu Kushwaha, a former Union Minister and three-time MLA, who officially joined the RJD on June 25, along with Raghavendra Kushwaha and other influential figures.

Kushwaha’s Entry Seen as Strategic Boost

Renu Kushwaha, who has previously represented the BJP, JD(U), and LJP, brings with her a strong voter base and deep-rooted political experience. Her 1999 victory over the wife of senior RJD leader RK Rana underscores her electoral clout. Welcoming her into the party, Tejashwi Yadav emphasized the RJD’s commitment to social justice and inclusive development, stating:

“For every step forward the Kushwaha community takes, Tejashwi will take four steps alongside them.”

RJD Eyes Broader Coalition, NDA Faces Setback

The defection is being viewed as a major blow to the NDA, which is already grappling with internal rifts and leadership challenges. RJD State President Mangani Lal Mandal expressed confidence that the party’s expanding base would help realize Lalu Prasad Yadav’s vision of a progressive and united Bihar.

Meanwhile, the NDA is attempting to project unity through joint campaigns and welfare outreach, but the loss of seasoned leaders like Kushwaha has raised questions about its electoral cohesion.

Political Landscape Shifts Ahead of 2025 Elections

With the Mahagathbandhan alliance gaining traction and the RJD positioning itself as the nucleus of opposition unity, the upcoming Bihar elections are shaping up to be a high-stakes contest. Tejashwi Yadav’s leadership and strategic alliances are expected to play a pivotal role in the party’s performance.
