In a landmark move to strengthen digital law enforcement, Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha inaugurated the state’s first dedicated cybercrime police station at AD Nagar, Agartala. The facility will serve as the central hub for investigating internet-based crimes, including financial fraud, cyberbullying, identity theft, and AI-driven scams.

Highlighting the urgency of cyber vigilance, CM Saha described smartphones with internet access as “more dangerous than AK-47s”, citing their potential to destroy lives remotely. He called cybercrime a “battle against shadows”, urging law enforcement to stay ahead of evolving threats.
“The internet connects us globally, but it also exposes us to invisible dangers. Criminals can now strike from anywhere,” he said.
🧠 AI, Cross-Border Threats & Digital Vigilance
Saha warned of the misuse of artificial intelligence and Tripura’s geographical vulnerability due to its proximity to international borders. He emphasized the need for technical upskilling of police personnel and public awareness to combat rising cyber threats.

Tripura DGP Anurag noted a surge in cyberbullying and financial scams, especially targeting minors. He revealed that the state has already recovered ₹5.46 crore from cyber frauds, with ₹32 lakh returned to victims.
“Prompt reporting is key. It allows us to intercept fraudulent transactions before they leave Indian banking channels,” he said.
