Mizoram CM Urges NGOs to Harness CSR Funds, Flags State’s Low Share at Aizawl Workshop

Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma has called on NGOs, societies, and hospitals to actively register as CSR implementing agencies, citing the state’s alarmingly low share of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds. Speaking at the valedictory session of a three-day Capacity Building Workshop in Aizawl, the CM emphasized the urgent need to mobilize CSR resources for Mizoram’s development.

📉 Mizoram Among Lowest CSR Fund Recipients

Despite national mandates requiring companies to invest in CSR, Mizoram continues to receive one of the lowest allocations in India, primarily due to the limited number of registered implementing agencies in the state.

“Even though there are numerous companies obligated to implement CSR initiatives, Mizoram remains at the bottom in terms of fund inflow,” Lalduhoma stated.

He cited the Serchhip District Hospital, which received ₹21 crore through CSR, as a successful example of what’s possible with proper mobilization.

🏢 CSR Cell and Matchmaking Platform Launched

To address the gap, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) has established a dedicated CSR Cell to:

  • Guide local organizations through the registration process
  • Facilitate access to CSR funding
  • Launch a CSR Matchmaking Platform to connect donor companies with eligible agencies

The CM also highlighted recent initiatives like sensitization programs, a Bengaluru roadshow with UNDP, and training workshops with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) to boost awareness and capacity.

🗣️ “Your Success Will Uplift Society”

Lalduhoma encouraged participants to view CSR not just as funding, but as a tool for employment generation, infrastructure development, and social upliftment.

“Your success will uplift society, create employment opportunities for youth, and contribute to the overall progress of our state,” he said.
