Adani Power Secures 1,500 MW Supply Contract for Uttar Pradesh from Upcoming Greenfield Plant

Adani Power Ltd., India’s largest private sector thermal power generator, has won a competitive bid to supply 1,500 MW of electricity to Uttar Pradesh from a new greenfield ultra-supercritical thermal power plant.

The upcoming 2×800 MW (1,500 MW net) power plant will be developed under the Design, Build, Finance, Own, and Operate (DBFOO) model. The project, approved by the Uttar Pradesh cabinet, will operate under a long-term Power Supply Agreement (PSA) with Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd. (UPPCL).

Adani Power will invest approximately $2 billion in setting up the plant and related infrastructure. The project is expected to generate 8,000–9,000 direct and indirect jobs during construction and around 2,000 jobs once operational.

CEO S.B. Khyalia expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating, “We are happy to have won the competitive bid to supply 1,500 MW power to UP state and feel privileged to play a leading role in meeting the state’s rapidly growing power demand. We plan to set up a modern and low-emission ultra-supercritical plant in UP and aim to begin supplying reliable and high-quality power by FY30.”

The move aligns with Uttar Pradesh’s projections of an 11,000 MW rise in thermal power demand by FY34, driven by rapid industrialization, urban growth, and infrastructure expansion.

This marks Adani Power’s second major PSA bid win in less than a year, following its 6,600 MW contract (including 1,600 MW thermal and 5,000 MW solar) from Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd. (MSEDCL) in September 2024.

With this latest development, Adani Power continues to strengthen its position as a key player in India’s power sector, ensuring long-term energy security for growing states like Uttar Pradesh.
