Al Nassr FC, the Saudi Pro League club led by football icon Cristiano Ronaldo, has officially parted ways with head coach Stefano Pioli following a disappointing 2024–25 season that ended without silverware. The club confirmed the decision via social media on June 25, thanking Pioli and his staff for their service.
Trophy Drought Triggers Exit
Pioli, who joined Al Nassr in September 2024 after a successful stint at AC Milan, failed to deliver on high expectations. Under his leadership, the team finished third in the Saudi Pro League, and suffered defeats in both the King’s Cup and the AFC Champions League, extending the club’s title drought since 2019.
“Mr. Pioli and his staff are no longer the acting coaching staff of the first team,” the club stated.
Ronaldo Reacts with Gratitude
Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored 31 goals in 36 appearances under Pioli, shared a farewell message on Instagram, writing “Grazie per tutto!” (Thank you for everything). The 40-year-old forward’s contract is set to expire in a few days, though reports suggest he may extend his stay.
What’s Next for Al Nassr?
The club is now in search of its fourth full-time manager since Ronaldo’s arrival in 2023. Former teammate Sergio Conceição and Belgian coach Marc Brys are among the rumored candidates. Meanwhile, Pioli is expected to return to Fiorentina, where he previously managed from 2017 to 2019.
