Union Home Minister Amit Shah highlighted the critical importance of the economic prosperity of the North-East region for the overall development of India. Speaking at the North East Bankers Conclave organized at Hotel Polo Tower today, Shah underscored that a developed India is unattainable without the economic advancement of the North-East.
“Happiness and prosperity will remain in that state whose citizens are engaged in their duties. Happiness will remain in that state where citizens are financially happy. Therefore, the economic development of the country will be possible only if all the states of the North-East are economically prosperous,” Shah stated. He emphasized that the financial well-being of the country’s 140 crore citizens is essential for building a developed state.
Shah reiterated the necessity of economic development in the North-East, noting the significant changes in the region over the past decade. “There is a lot of difference between the North-East 10 years ago and the present North-East under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Ten years ago, the North-East was turbulent. But in the last 10 years, peace has been established in the North-East under the rule of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he said. Shah highlighted that over 9,000 militants have surrendered and returned to normal life, paving the way for the region’s development.
He further remarked that the North-East states are poised to become the gateway to a developed India due to their immense potential. “The states of the North-East are going to be the gateway to building a developed India. These regions have a lot of potential,” Shah expressed. He also conveyed his optimism that the North-East states will set a record in terms of development in the country.
Shah was accompanied by union DoNER minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Tripura CM Dr Manik Saha, Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu, MoS Dr Sukanta Majumder, Secretary of the Department of Finance (MoF) M Nagaraju, Tripura Chief Secretary JK Sinha, officials of the centre and state governments, banking officials and others.
The conclave highlighted the importance of financial inclusion and economic growth in the North-East, with Shah’s remarks resonating with the attendees. The Union Home Minister’s address highlighted the government’s commitment to fostering economic prosperity in the region as a cornerstone for India’s overall development.
