The Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has strongly criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) observance of ‘Black Day’ on June 25, calling it a “theatrical display of hypocrisy” aimed at diverting attention from what it described as an “undeclared emergency” under the current regime.
“Real Black Day Is Happening Now”: APCC President
In a scathing statement, APCC President Bosiram Siram said the BJP’s focus on the 1975 Emergency was a distraction from its own systematic assault on democratic institutions over the past 11 years and 30 days, branding the period as ‘Undeclared Emergency@11’.
“The real Black Day for India’s democracy is not in the past—it is unfolding every day under BJP rule,” Siram asserted.
Allegations of Institutional Undermining
The Congress accused the BJP of:
- Suspending MPs arbitrarily for raising public concerns
- Bypassing parliamentary committees and bulldozing key legislation
- Compromising the Election Commission and CAG’s integrity
- Weaponizing investigative agencies to target opposition leaders and civil society
- Suppressing media freedom through intimidation and selective advertising
Siram also cited the 2016 political crisis in Arunachal Pradesh, where the BJP allegedly engineered mass defections to topple the elected Congress government, as a “direct attack on the democratic mandate”.
“Betrayal of Ambedkar’s Legacy”
The APCC condemned Prime Minister Modi’s 2024 push for a “400-plus mandate” to alter the Constitution, calling it a betrayal of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s vision. The party claimed that voters rejected this agenda by choosing to uphold the existing constitutional framework.
Congress Reaffirms Democratic Commitment
Reiterating its commitment to democracy, inclusivity, and development, the APCC pledged to focus on infrastructure, employment, and cultural preservation in Arunachal Pradesh.
“Democracy is not just about remembering the past—it’s about protecting the present and securing the future,” Siram concluded.
