Asian Games 2023: India women’s table tennis team defeats Nepal 3-0 to advance to next round

India women’s table tennis team defeated Nepal in straight games in Group-F to advance to the next round of Asian Games 2023. Diya Parag Chitale, Ayhika Mukherjee and Sutirtha Mukherjee put in a dominant display to beat Nepal 3-0 in Group-F.

Diya Parag Chitale gave India the perfect start by brushing aside Sikka Shrestha 11-1 in the first game. She then went on to beat her Nepalese opponent 11-6 to win the second game as well. In the final game, Chitale defeated Shrestha 11-8 in 13 minutes to give India a 1-0 lead over Nepal.

Ayhika Mukherjee then took on Nabita Shrestha in the second match of the contest. Mukherjee picked up where Chitale left off, racing through the first game with a 11-3 win over Nabita. Mukherjee continued her onslaught and downed her opponent 11-7 in the second match. She went on to beat Nabita 11-2 to give India a 2-0 lead in the contest.

Sutirtha Mukherjee then took on Evana Thapa Magar in the third round with a dominant 11-1 win in the first game. She then went on to down Magar 11-5 to win the second game with ease. Sutirtha wrapped up the match with a comfortable 11-2 win to send India into the next round with a 3-0 win.

Earlier, the women’s team, led by star shuttler Manika Batra, had to work hard for their win against Singapore. It was not a perfect start for the Indian women as Ayhika Mukherjee lost 11-7 2-11 7-11 10-12 to Jian Zeng. But Manika Batra drew the scores level for India, defeating Jingyi Zhou 11-9 9-11 11-7 11-3 and then Sreeja Akula gave India the lead with a fighting 12-14 11-9 8-11 11-9 11-7 win over Xin Ru Wong.

Singapore took the tie into the decider when Batra lost 3-11 11-3 10-12 12-10 10-12 to Zeng. But Mukherjee ensured a positive start for the Indian women by a registering 11-7 11-8 9-11 11-5 over Zhou.
