Assam Cabinet Approves Rabha Development Council for Non-RHAC Areas to Ensure Inclusive Welfare

In a landmark move aimed at promoting inclusive development, the Assam Cabinet has approved the formation of a Rabha Development Council to serve Rabha communities residing outside the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council (RHAC) jurisdiction.

The decision, announced by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma following a Cabinet meeting on Sunday, is designed to address the socio-economic, educational, and cultural needs of Rabha people who have long been outside the purview of RHAC-led welfare initiatives.

“The Rabha Development Council will work exclusively for the welfare of Rabha communities living beyond RHAC areas,” said CM Sarma during a press briefing.

🛤️ Bridging the Development Gap

While the RHAC continues to operate in designated tribal areas, thousands of Rabha families living in other parts of Assam have lacked access to targeted government schemes. The new Council aims to bridge this gap by:

  • Implementing tailored welfare programs
  • Promoting cultural preservation and education
  • Supporting economic empowerment and skill development

📍 Strategic Significance

The move is seen as part of the state’s broader push toward inclusive tribal governance, ensuring that no community is left behind due to administrative boundaries. It also aligns with Assam’s ongoing efforts to strengthen decentralized development and tribal representation.

Stay tuned for updates on the Council’s structure and implementation roadmap.
