Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has strongly criticized the opposition to the proposed celebration of Bihar Diwas in Tinsukia, Assam, calling it a “narrow-minded approach” that could harm the state’s image and investment prospects. The event, scheduled for March 22, 2025, has faced backlash from regional organizations and the outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) [ULFA (I)], which warned against the celebration, citing cultural concerns.
The Chief Minister emphasized that Assam Diwas is celebrated in other states, including Bihar, and urged for mutual respect and understanding. “Such protests send a negative message and could jeopardize employment opportunities for Assamese youth in other parts of the country,” Sarma stated.
The opposition, led by groups like the All Assam Students’ Union and the Assam Jatiya Parishad, argued that the celebration undermines Assamese culture and traditions. They accused the ruling BJP of using the event for political gains among Hindi-speaking communities.
Despite the controversy, Sarma reaffirmed his commitment to fostering unity and inclusivity, urging all communities to embrace cultural diversity. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
