Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has inaugurated a series of development projects worth over Rs 100 crore in Diphu, Karbi Anglong district, marking a significant step towards enhancing connectivity and infrastructure in the region. The projects, unveiled during a function near Rengbonghom H S School, include the laying, widening, and upgrading of roads, as well as the construction of bridges, aimed at revolutionizing transportation in the hill district.
Addressing the gathering, Sarma emphasized the importance of these initiatives in fostering unprecedented development in Karbi Anglong. He also distributed pre-school kits to Anganwadi Centres, highlighting the government’s commitment to creating a joyful and enriching learning environment for young children. The Chief Minister assured that steps would be taken to increase the remuneration of Anganwadi workers and helpers from October 1, along with a one-time grant to support them.
Sarma outlined plans for establishing key educational and healthcare institutions in the district, including a Medical College, an Engineering College, a Sainik School, and a Cancer Hospital. He stressed the need for competent human resources to run these institutions successfully and pledged to revamp the academic infrastructure from Anganwadi Centres to colleges.
Among the major projects, the construction of a 1.4 km four-lane flyover from Diphu Stadium to the General Post Office, with a financial outlay of Rs 198 crore, is expected to be completed by December 31, 2025. Additionally, the 29.70 km road from Hamren to Tumpreng is targeted for completion by the end of this year.
The Chief Minister also unveiled statues of Reng Bonghom and Queen Kareng Terongpi in Diphu, paying tribute to the region’s cultural heritage. These initiatives reflect the government’s dedication to transforming Karbi Anglong into a hub of connectivity, education, and healthcare.
