Assam Imposes Night Curfew, Transport Ban Along India-Bangladesh Border in Cachar Amid Extremist Threat Alert

The Cachar district administration in Assam has enforced strict restrictions along the India-Bangladesh border, citing intelligence inputs about potential movement of extremist elements and illegal cross-border activities. The order, issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), is effective immediately and will remain in force for two months, unless revoked earlier.

đźš« Key Restrictions Enforced

  • Night curfew from sunset to sunrise within a 1-km belt along the international border
  • Ban on transport of essential commodities (rice, sugar, wheat, kerosene, salt, edible oil) during night hours within a 5-km border zone
  • Fishing and boating on the Surma River restricted without prior permission from the Katigorah Circle Officer, with approvals to be shared with the District Magistrate and BSF Commandant
  • Movement on riverbanks and adjacent areas also prohibited during curfew hours

🛡️ Objective: Curb Extremism and Smuggling

District Commissioner Mridul Yadav stated that the directive aims to prevent law and order disruptions, unauthorized transport of goods and cattle, and ensure regional peace. The Border Security Force (BSF) has been instructed to maintain heightened vigilance, with 13 naka points monitoring compliance.

The order exempts state and central government officials on duty. Conditional transport permissions may be granted by the Katigorah Circle Officer after verification with supply officials.
