Assam has emerged as a frontrunner in National Highway (NH) development among the Northeastern states, with the highest number of ongoing projects and the largest investment allocation. With a total investment of ₹39,239 crore, this initiative represents a significant milestone in infrastructure development for the region.
The state boasts the longest road network currently under construction, with projects aimed at enhancing connectivity and boosting economic growth. Assam has also received the highest allocation for NH development and maintenance, amounting to ₹5,329 crore. In comparison, Arunachal Pradesh has been allocated ₹3,488 crore, followed by Manipur with ₹1,508 crore, Nagaland with ₹1,227 crore, and Tripura with ₹514 crore.
The combined total of approved NH projects across the Northeast stands at ₹43,322 crore, while projects currently under construction amount to ₹87,363 crore. These projects are scheduled for completion by 2028, with measures in place to address challenges such as land acquisition, environmental clearances, and utility shifting.
Authorities are streamlining processes and enhancing coordination with state governments to ensure timely execution. Assam’s leadership in NH development underscores its commitment to improving infrastructure and fostering regional growth, setting a benchmark for other Northeastern states.
