Bangladesh’s leading Test wicket-taker Shakib Al Hasan is BANNED from bowling by ECB after being reported for a suspect action during county championship match for champions Surrey

The suspension imposed for competitions under ECB jurisdiction – following independent assessment at Loughborough University earlier this month – extends worldwide as per international protocols.

Thirty-seven-year-old Shakib, who has 246 Test wickets and 712 for Bangladesh across all formats, featured in a one-off fixture against Somerset in Taunton as the champions’ regular spinners Will Jacks and Dan Lawrence were absent on England duty.

He finished with figures of nine for 193, but Surrey lost a dramatic contest by 111 runs and umpires Steve O’Shaughnessy and David Millns reported him for a suspect action.

Laboratory tests on his bowling on Monday backed up their visual assessment, with Shakib’s elbow extension exceeding the 15 degree threshold.

Regulations state he is now ineligible to bowl in competitions regulated here – and indeed those overseas – until he has passed a reassessment.
