BCCI Appoints Rajeev Shukla and Ashish Shelar to Key Roles in Asian Cricket Council

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the appointment of Vice-President Rajeev Shukla and former treasurer Ashish Shelar to prominent positions within the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). The announcement was made on March 7, 2025, by BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia.

Key Appointments

Rajeev Shukla, a seasoned cricket administrator and Congress Rajya Sabha MP, will represent India as an Executive Board Member on the ACC Board. Meanwhile, Ashish Shelar, a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and former BCCI treasurer, has been appointed as an Ex-Officio Board Member of the ACC.

These appointments come in the wake of a vacancy created by Jay Shah, the former ACC President and current ICC Chair. Shah, who served three consecutive terms as ACC President, stepped down from his role on the ACC Board after assuming the ICC Chairmanship in December 2024.

BCCI’s Vision for Asian Cricket

In a press release, Devajit Saikia extended his best wishes to Shukla and Shelar, emphasizing the BCCI’s commitment to promoting and strengthening cricket across Asia. “We wish both of them a successful tenure as the ACC works towards developing and enhancing the sport in the region,” Saikia stated.

Leadership Transition in ACC

The ACC is set to undergo a leadership transition, with Pakistan’s Mohsin Naqvi slated to take over as the head of the continental body in the upcoming cycle. Shukla and Shelar’s involvement is expected to play a pivotal role in maintaining India’s influence within the ACC and shaping the future of cricket in Asia.

These appointments mark a significant step in the BCCI’s efforts to bolster its presence in international cricket governance. Stay tuned for further updates on developments within the ACC.
