Tripura MP and former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has launched a scathing attack on the Communist Party of India (Marxist), branding it a “permanent emergency” and accusing it of decades-long suppression, political violence, and betrayal of democratic values in the state. His remarks came during a public address in Sepahijala district, where he also drew parallels between the CPI(M)’s governance and the Emergency era of 1975–77.
“Communists Are the Real Emergency”: Deb
Deb accused the CPI(M) of institutionalizing fear and exploitation during its 25-year rule in Tripura.
“The Communists didn’t need a formal Emergency—they ran one for decades. Their rule was the real ‘permanent emergency’,” he said.
He cited the illegal recruitment of 10,323 teachers, widespread political violence, and suppression of opposition voices as hallmarks of the CPI(M)’s tenure.
Criticism of CPI(M)’s Maoist Stance
Deb also condemned the CPI(M) for opposing the killing of 27 Maoists in a recent Chhattisgarh encounter, calling it a “betrayal of national interest”.
“They are anti-national in their thinking. Supporting Maoists while our jawans are martyred is unacceptable,” he stated.
Legacy of Exploitation and Division
Referring to the CPI(M)’s alleged exploitation of the poor, Deb said the party “collected contributions from the impoverished while denying them dignity”, and accused its leaders of profiting from people’s suffering.
He also criticized the party’s alliance with the Congress, calling it a “marriage of convenience” aimed at regaining lost political ground.
BJP’s Vision for Tripura
Deb urged voters to reject the Communist legacy and support the BJP’s development agenda, highlighting achievements in infrastructure, refugee rehabilitation, and law and order under the current government.
