Ceasefire Announced as Part of India’s Strategic Planning, Says CDS Anil Chauhan

India’s sudden ceasefire announcement following Operation Sindoor was a pre-planned strategic decision, according to Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan. Speaking at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, Chauhan emphasized that India had achieved all its military objectives within three days, making the ceasefire a calculated move rather than a compromise.

India’s Military Strategy & Operation Sindoor

Operation Sindoor was launched on May 6–7, 2025, in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives. India conducted precision airstrikes, targeting nine terrorist hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), eliminating over 100 terrorists, including Jaish-e-Mohammed leader Abdul Rauf Azhar.

Between May 7 and 10, Pakistan retaliated with cross-border shelling, resulting in the deaths of 15 Indian civilians and one soldier. In response, the Indian Air Force launched BrahMos missile strikes, destroying Pakistan’s Noor Khan and Chaklala airports in Rawalpindi.

Ceasefire: A Strategic Decision, Not a Compromise

General Chauhan clarified that India’s military response was never intended to escalate into full-scale war. Instead, the ceasefire was part of a long-term strategy, ensuring that India maintains its focus on economic and social development while delivering a strong message against terrorism.

India’s Future Security Approach

Despite the ceasefire, India remains on high alert, with Chauhan warning that any further provocation from Pakistan will be met with a firm response. He reiterated that India’s defense strategy prioritizes decisive action while maintaining diplomatic stability.
