Champions Trophy 2025 : PCB Comes Up With Unique Moat To Avoid Pitch Invasion At Gaddafi Stadium : WATCH

Lahore’s iconic Gaddafi Stadium is officially ready to host the ICC Champions Trophy. On Friday, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) offered a glimpse into the newly renovated venue, showcasing state-of-the-art upgrades that mark the stadium’s most extensive transformation since the 1996 World Cup, which Pakistan co-hosted with India and Sri Lanka.

As of now, Gaddafi Stadium is slated to host at least four matches during the prestigious tournament.

One of the standout features of the renovation is the addition of a deep moat, 10 feet wide and equally deep, separating the stands from the ground. This modern innovation not only enhances security by preventing pitch invasions but also aids in effective drainage, replacing the traditional steel cage barrier. To ensure gameplay continuity, a protective net will be installed over the trench to keep the ball in play.

“Two VVIP enclosures, named after cricketing legends Zaheer Abbas and Majid Khan, have been added to honor their contributions to Pakistan cricket. The installation of modern LED floodlights, high-resolution SMD screens, and upgraded seating has significantly enhanced the viewing experience, ensuring that the stadium meets the highest international standards,” as reported by The Nation.

The revamped stadium will be inaugurated ahead of Pakistan’s tri-series against South Africa and New Zealand, serving as the perfect precursor to the Champions Trophy. This 2025 edition of the tournament will be co-hosted by Pakistan and the UAE.

Pakistan, the defending champions from their memorable 2017 triumph, will enter the competition under new leadership. Mohammad Rizwan has taken over the captaincy following Babar Azam’s decision to step down after the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in 2023. This marks the first 50-over ICC tournament since that event.

Notably, rising batting sensation Saim Ayub will miss the tournament due to an ankle injury sustained during Pakistan’s New Year’s Test match in Cape Town, South Africa. Despite his absence, the hosts have named a strong 15-member squad, including four players making their return to the national side.

Fans can eagerly anticipate a thrilling Champions Trophy, showcasing not just top-tier cricket but also Pakistan’s commitment to hosting international events with excellence.
