Chennai Super Kings Suffer Historic Loss to Delhi Capitals at Chepauk After 15 Years

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) faced a crushing defeat against the Delhi Capitals (DC) in their IPL 2025 clash at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, marking their first loss to DC at this venue in 15 years. The Capitals secured a commanding 25-run victory, extending their winning streak this season.

Batting first, Delhi Capitals posted a competitive total of 183/6, thanks to KL Rahul’s brilliant knock of 77 off 51 balls. Rahul’s innings, featuring six boundaries and three sixes, anchored DC’s batting effort. Contributions from Abishek Porel (33 off 20 balls) and Tristan Stubbs (24 not out) further bolstered the team’s score.

In response, CSK struggled to chase the target, managing only 158/5 in their 20 overs. The top order faltered early, with Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rachin Ravindra, and Devon Conway falling within the powerplay. Vijay Shankar fought valiantly with an unbeaten 69 off 54 balls, while MS Dhoni remained not out at 30 off 26 balls. However, their efforts were insufficient to overcome the disciplined bowling attack of DC, led by Mitchell Starc and Vipraj Nigam.

This defeat marks CSK’s third consecutive loss this season, raising concerns about their batting and bowling performance during the powerplay. Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad acknowledged the team’s struggles, stating, “Powerplay is definitely a concern for us in both batting and bowling departments. We’re trying, but it’s just not happening.”

For Delhi Capitals, this victory not only solidifies their position as early title contenders but also breaks a long-standing record at Chepauk. With three wins in three games, DC is riding high on confidence, while CSK faces mounting pressure to turn their season around.
