Coimbatore woman involved in toddler’s kidnapping dies in police custody

A 35-year-old woman who was arrested in connection with the kidnapping of a toddler died in police custody in Coimbatore on Monday.

The woman, identified as Thilagavathy, was seen walking with the 18-month-old baby in her arms in CCTV footage, using which, the Tamil Nadu Police tracked her down.

Thilagavathy fainted when police were interrogating her and her husband Pandian in connection with the case on Monday. She was rushed to a hospital nearby where she was declared brought dead.

Coimbatore couple Rathi and Muthuraj’s child went missing five days ago during a visit to the Thiruchendur temple.

According to them, Thilagavathy and her husband had accompanied them to the temple. Soon after, their 18-month-old baby went missing and so did Thilagavathy, they told police.

Thilagavathy was arrested thereafter, and the toddler was rescued from her husband’s relatives in Salem.
