Congress Blasts Centre Over US Travel Advisory, Labels It ‘Diplomatic Failure’

The Congress party has launched a sharp attack on the Modi government following the United States’ recent travel advisory cautioning its citizens about visiting India. The advisory, which cites concerns over crime and terrorism—particularly warning women against solo travel—has been described by Congress as “another diplomatic failure” that tarnishes India’s global image.

Shrinate Slams Modi Government’s Foreign Policy

At a press conference, Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate criticized the Centre for its silence on the matter, stating, “This is yet another diplomatic failure of the Modi government.” She pointed out the irony of the advisory being issued by a country whose leaders were once courted with events like ‘Howdy Modi’ and ‘Namaste Trump’.

Shrinate also highlighted the advisory’s potential impact on tourism and foreign investment, warning that such alerts influence institutional investor sentiment and global perceptions of India’s safety and governance.

Accusations of Hypocrisy and Double Standards

The Congress party accused the US of hypocrisy, noting that while India received a Level 2 advisory, no such warning was issued for Pakistan—despite its track record on terrorism. Shrinate questioned why Pakistan’s Army Chief was being hosted at the White House while India faced adverse advisories.

Women’s Safety in Focus

The advisory’s specific caution to women travelers has reignited debate over women’s safety in India. Shrinate cited alarming statistics, claiming that “43 women face crime in India every hour,” and alleged that government funding for women’s protection schemes has been slashed.

Congress Demands Government Response

Calling the advisory an embarrassment, Congress has demanded that the Indian government register a strong protest with the US and clarify what diplomatic gains have been achieved through its foreign policy engagements.
