On International Women’s Day 2025, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the approval of the Mahila Samridhi Yojana, a groundbreaking welfare scheme aimed at empowering women in the national capital. The initiative, which promises ₹2,500 per month in financial assistance to eligible women, has been allocated a budget of ₹5,100 crore for its implementation.
A Landmark Decision
The scheme was approved during a cabinet meeting chaired by CM Gupta, fulfilling a key election promise made by the ruling BJP. Speaking at the event, Gupta stated, “This initiative is a step towards ensuring economic stability and social upliftment for women, particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds.”
Eligibility and Implementation
The scheme is expected to benefit 15-20 lakh women aged 18-60 years, with a focus on families earning an annual income of up to ₹3 lakh. Beneficiaries must be Delhi residents for at least five years and should not be enrolled in other government financial assistance programs. A dedicated portal will soon be launched for online registrations, ensuring transparency and efficiency through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
Empowering Women
The Mahila Samridhi Yojana is part of a broader vision to promote women-led development in Delhi. Alongside this scheme, the government has announced measures to enhance women’s safety, including increasing the number of CCTV cameras, Pink PCR vans, and one-stop centers for legal aid and support.
This initiative underscores the Delhi government’s commitment to fostering economic independence and empowerment for women. Stay tuned for updates on the registration process and further developments.
