Earthquake in Meghalaya. Tremours felt in Assam, West Bengal

An earthquake was felt in Meghalaya this evening. According to the weather offices, the originating point of the earthquake was at North Garo hills.

It measured 5.2 on the Richter Scale and the time was 06 :15 PM.

Tremours were felt in Assam and parts of West Bengal. According to the twitter released by the Meteorological Department the exact point of the earthquake was 25.90 Latitude and 90.57 Longitude. The depth was 10 km.

This was the second earthquake to be felt in the nation in as many days. As on Sunday a mild earthquake was felt in parts of Haryana. It measured 2.6 on the Richter Scale and the timing was 11 :26 PM. The epicentre of this earthquake was recorded 7 km away from Rohtak.

No reports of any casualties received so far. It should be noted that Meghalaya and parts of North – East are earthquake prone zones as earthquake takes place frequently out there. This is the reason why majority of the houses are made of woods in those areas.

In the past there are records of severe earthquake happening in those areas with heavy damages and several loss of lives. State government along with the central government are taking adequate measures to fight this natural calamity.
