Gauhati University, one of Assam’s premier educational institutions, observed Students’ Day on March 31, 2025, to commemorate the birth anniversary of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma, a revered leader and social reformer of the Bodo community. The event was marked by a series of cultural and academic activities, reflecting the university’s commitment to celebrating the legacy of influential figures in Assam’s history.
The celebration included seminars, debates, and cultural performances, with students and faculty members actively participating. Vice-Chancellor Dr. Nani Gopal Mahanta addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma’s contributions to education and social justice. He stated, “Bodofa’s vision and leadership continue to inspire generations. Observing Students’ Day is our way of honoring his legacy and promoting the values he stood for.”
Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma, often referred to as the “Father of the Bodo People,” was a prominent leader who advocated for the rights and welfare of the Bodo community. His birth anniversary has been officially recognized as Students’ Day in Assam since 2023, following a government initiative to pay tribute to his contributions.
