In his own words, Bashar Al-Assad narrates the dying moment of his dictatorship and how he escaped Syria; here’s his ball-by-ball account

Bashar Al-Assad has now entered the list of powerful global leaders who have now been pushed to exile by rebel forces. Syrian insurgents gained capture over critical Syrian territories in recent weeks, and that has forced the Syrian President to flee the country based on ther persistent threat to his life. According to a previous ET report, Moscow intelligence officials carefully planned and chalked out his escape to Moscow, where he has now safely reached through a Russian air base along the Syrian coastline.

Al-Assad blames ‘terrorism’, stays mum on human rights abuse allegations against own government

Upon reaching Moscow, Al-Assad is now blaming ‘terrorism’ as one of the key reasons for his regime to collapse in Syria, and he also went on to say that his escape was not pre-planned and had happened at the spur of the moment. According to Assad’s first statement in Moscow, he was moving to Latakia in coordination with our Russian allies to oversee combat operations, after receiving news that Syrian insurgents had infiltrated Damascus completely.

Why did Al-Assad flee to Moscow?

However, upon reaching the Russian airbase of Khmeimim, along the Syrian coastline, he came to know about the insurgents had crippled all army positions in the country, and his government’s troops had withdrawn from the battle lines. It was ‘then that he took the decision to proceed to Moscow’, as his life was at imminent threat’. According to Al-Assad, his only plan was to continue fighting and keep the ‘terrorists’ at bay, but he did not provide any detailed explanations as to why he then decided to leave with Moscow officials.
