The Cricket Academy of Murshidabad District Sports Association was officially launched by former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly at Baharampur Stadium on Thursday.
Along with that, the bowling machine at the academy was also inaugurated. Sourav Ganguly, the ICC Men’s Cricket Committee Chairman and former captain of the Indian cricket team, inaugurated the cricket academy by cutting the ribbon.
Members of the cricket academy as well as cricket lovers gathered to see Ganguly, who captained India to the 2003 ODI World Cup. Ganguly sounded optimistic for the Indian team ahead of their tour of South Africa and Australia after the Test series against New Zealand.
Ganguly said, “The team has newcomers as well as experienced ones. Good teams will be made with seniors and juniors. So the best team has to be made. Australia and South Africa will be a good and tough tour.”
On being asked about the junior players, those who are performing well for team India, Ganguly said, “India has good players. India just won against Bangladesh. So India is a great team.”
In November, India are set to lock horns with the Proteas in four T20Is. Durban, Gqeberha, Centurion and Johannesburg will host the matches on November 8, 10, 13 and 15.
Thereafter, India will tour Australia for the all-important Border-Gavaskar Trophy, starting November 22 with the series opener at the Perth Stadium. India will then take part in the Day-Night Test at the Adelaide Oval, followed by the Brisbane Test.
The Boxing Day Test starts on December 26 at the Melbourne Cricket Stadium. The fifth and final Test starts on January 3 at the Sydney Cricket Ground. India won the Test series both times when they toured Australia in 2018-19 and 2020-21.
