Introduction

Suresh Raina remains one of the most dynamic limited-overs batsmen to have represented India on the international stage. Known for his aggressive stroke play, exceptional fielding, and handy off-spin bowling, he contributed significantly to numerous victories for the national team throughout his career.

Retirement from International Cricket

The experienced left-hander decided to hang up his boots from international cricket in August 2020. His announcement came shortly after his long-time teammate and captain, MS Dhoni, also announced his retirement from international play, marking the end of a notable era for Indian cricket.

The 2019 World Cup Ouster

A major turning point in Raina’s later playing days was his omission from India’s squad for the 2019 One Day International World Cup held in England. Despite his vast experience in high-pressure tournaments, selectors opted for alternative combinations in the middle order, leaving him out of the traveling party.

Legacy and Impact

Although his time with the national team concluded in 2020 at the age of 33, Raina’s overall legacy in white-ball cricket remains secure. He was the first Indian batsman to score a century in all three formats of the game, highlighting his versatility and adaptability across different conditions.

Looking Forward

Today, Raina continues to engage with the sport through various broadcasting roles and tournament participation, sharing his extensive knowledge and passion for the game with the next generation of aspiring cricketers and fans around the world.
