There has been a significant rise in the activities of armed Rohingya groups due to the increasing influence of Pakistan in Bangladesh.
This sudden jump of Rohingya groups will have long-term impacts on India, Myanmar, and Bangladesh. According to the reports, on December 25, representatives from four Myanmar rebel organizations the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA), Rohingya Solidarity Organization (RSO), Islami Mahaj, Arakan National Defense Force (ANDF), and Arakan Rohingya Army (ARA) gathered at a refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, and shared a platform. Following a meeting, a new alliance between these groups was formed called the Four Brothers Alliance or the Rohingya Army.
Rohingya Rebels Rally in Cox’s Bazar
Thousands of refugees gathered in Kutupalong, Cox’s Bazar, and participated in the rally, according to a FirstPost report. Sources in Cox’s Bazar revealed that Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), is collaborating with these rebel groups to support their campaign to reclaim their homeland in Myanmar.
This support includes providing weapons, training, and intelligence inputs. ISI’s assistance is reportedly being facilitated by Bangladeshi government officials who have received approval from the interim government led by Mohammad Yunus.
ISI Increases Activity in Bangladesh
It is important to note that Pakistan’s influence in Bangladesh has significantly increased after the fall of the Shiekh Hasina government in August. Bangladesh, which is now on the verge of bankruptcy, has signed multiple deals with the Shehbaz Sharif-led Pakistan government. In one of the agreements between both the bankrupt countries, the Pakistani military will be permitted to train their Bangladeshi counterparts starting next month.
Top officials from Pakistan’s ISI and military have been frequently visiting Bangladesh, assisting the Yunus government in creating an anti-India narrative. This includes leveraging Myanmar’s Rohingyas against India.
Rohingyas Aim to Take Over Myanmar
The declared objective of the Rohingya united front is to reclaim the region in Myanmar from which they were expelled years ago. Just two months ago, thousands of Rohingyas were forced to leave their homes when Myanmar’s ethnic armed group, the Arakan Army, launched a massive military campaign against the army to seize control of border areas in Maungdaw, near the Bangladesh border. This district is now entirely under the control of the Arakan Army.
