In a significant counter-insurgency operation, the Indian Army and Assam Rifles successfully dismantled six bunkers and twelve shelter camps established by the banned United Kuki National Army (UKNA) along the Indo-Myanmar border in Manipur’s Churachandpur district. The operation, conducted in the dense forests near Songphu and Henglep villages, marked a decisive step in curbing insurgent activities in the region.
The joint operation, which lasted approximately seven hours, was based on credible intelligence reports about UKNA hideouts in the area. During the advance, militants managed to escape, leaving behind makeshift shelters, contraband goods, and 27 wooden (dummy) weapons. The operation is part of a sustained campaign over the past 48 hours to restore peace and normalcy in the region.
The Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) Headquarters confirmed the success of the operation in an official statement, emphasizing the commitment of security forces to maintaining peace and security along the borders. “The operation highlights the sincere efforts by the security forces in ensuring that peace and normalcy are brought back as soon as possible,” the release stated.
This strategic intervention underscores the determination of the Indian Army and Assam Rifles to counter insurgent threats and uphold security in the sensitive border areas. The operation serves as a testament to the ongoing efforts to stabilize the region and prevent further militant activities.
