Bollywood actress and Punjab Kings (PBKS) co-owner Preity Zinta has refuted a viral social media quote attributed to her, which allegedly took a dig at Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant. The circulating statement claimed Zinta said, “We had both Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer—options we could have taken in the team. But we wanted a big performer, not a big name… so we took Shreyas Iyer in the team.”
Zinta addressed the misinformation on her official X (formerly Twitter) account, stating, “I’m so sorry but this is FAKE NEWS!” .
The fabricated quote emerged after Pant, in a previous interview, expressed relief at not being picked by PBKS during the IPL 2025 auction, mentioning he was only concerned about not joining Punjab. This comment led to various reactions online, with some users attempting to stir controversy between Pant and the PBKS management.
The user who initially shared the fake quote acknowledged its inauthenticity but justified posting it as a response to Pant’s earlier remarks. Despite the clarification, the incident underscores the rapid spread of misinformation on social media platforms and the importance of verifying facts before sharing.
