Amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine, the Delhi Police on Tuesday beefed up security around the Israeli embassy and Chabad House, PTI quoted an official as saying.
Reportedly, the local police stationed around the embassy in New Delhi and Chabad House, located in Chandni Chowk in central Delhi, have been ordered to maintain a tight vigil.
According to the officer, the authorities have ordered to raise the vigil around both installations.
The directions came amid the escalating situation between Israel-Gaza. Over 1,23,000 people have been internally displaced in Gaza as a result of ongoing Israeli attacks, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said.
The Israel Air Force (IAF) attacked several targets in the Gaza Strip since the morning hours of Monday, reported the Israel Defence Forces (IDF). After hours of intense bombardment by Israeli jets, Hamas, the Islamist movement that controls Gaza, said it would execute an Israeli captive for every civilian house bombed without warning. The spokesperson for Hamas’ armed wing said the group will not negotiate over Israeli captives “under fire”. The spokesperson, Abu Ubaida, said in a video speech that Israel should be ready to “pay the price” in return for the captives’ freedom.
On Tuesday, the White House in a joint statement said, “Today, we – President Macron of France, Chancellor Scholz of Germany, Prime Minister Meloni of Italy, Prime Minister Sunak of the United Kingdom, and President Biden of the United States – express our steadfast and united support to the State of Israel, and our unequivocal condemnation of Hamas and its appalling acts of terrorism.”
“We make clear that the terrorist actions of Hamas have no justification, no legitimacy, and must be universally condemned. There is never any justification for terrorism. In recent days, the world has watched in horror as Hamas terrorists massacred families in their homes, slaughtered over 200 young people enjoying a music festival, and kidnapped elderly women, children, and entire families, who are now being held as hostages,” the statement added.
