The discovery of crude oil reserves in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, could transform the region’s fortunes. The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) has commenced excavation and survey work near the banks of the Ganga River, sparking excitement among locals.
Possibility Of Major Oil Reserve In UP
News18 report suggests a significant petroleum reserve along the Ganga in Ballia. If confirmed, it could change Yogi Adityanath led Uttar Pradesh’s economic trajectory overnight. Currently, ONGC is conducting extensive drilling operations in the region. Following geologists’ satellite and geological surveys, a large-scale project worth crores of rupees has been initiated, including cranes and advanced equipment sourced from Assam.
Years Of Research
After years of geochemical, gravitational, and magnetic surveys, ONGC has identified the potential presence of oil and natural gas in the area. The groundwork began nearly four years ago, and with the recent approval of a Petroleum Exploration License from the state government, ONGC has leased approximately eight acres of land for three years. The site will undergo continuous research and excavation to confirm and extract the reserves.
According to the same report ONGC, shared project details, stating, the work has started near Sagarpali village on the highway close to Vaina Rattu Chak in Ballia. a well-shaped excavation is underway, and the drilling will reach a depth of 3,001 meters.
Excitement Among Locals
The news has spread joy throughout the district. Local residents expressed optimism. Approximately 50 workers are currently involved in the project. Due to the use of hazardous chemicals, the excavation site is secured with strong barbed wire fencing and guarded round the clock by security personnel.Locals remain hopeful as the ONGC team progresses with their efforts.
