Jofra Archer Faces ECB Heat Over Kit Violation Ahead of 2nd Test vs India

England’s preparations for the second Test against India have hit a snag as pacer Jofra Archer faces possible disciplinary action from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for breaching kit regulations during a County Championship match.

Kit Violation Clouds Archer’s Test Comeback

Archer, who is eyeing a red-ball return after four years, was seen wearing black socks—a violation of the County Championship’s strict dress code, which mandates white or light grey socks. The incident occurred during Sussex’s match against Durham, where Archer impressed with both bat and ball despite the minor infraction.

ECB May Issue Warning or Penalty

While the breach is not expected to derail Archer’s Test comeback, the ECB may issue a formal warning or minor penalty. The timing is delicate, as England’s pace attack is already under scrutiny following a lackluster performance in the first Test at Leeds.

Archer’s Return: A Boost England Needs

Archer’s inclusion in Sussex’s squad marked his first first-class appearance since 2021. He picked up a wicket and scored 31 runs, signaling a promising return to form. If he remains injury-free, he could be in contention for the second Test at Edgbaston starting July 2.

Not the Only One?

Interestingly, Indian skipper Shubman Gill may also face scrutiny for a similar kit violation during the Headingley Test, where he was spotted wearing black socks. However, no official action has been taken yet.

What’s at Stake

With England trailing in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series, Archer’s availability could be pivotal. His pace and bounce offer a much-needed edge to a depleted bowling lineup, especially in the absence of Mark Wood and a rested James Anderson.
