Actress Kangana Ranaut, who is currently starring in Emergency, took to social media on Monday to announce that she has begun filming for a new project alongside her Tanu Weds Manu co-star R. Madhavan.
The announcement follows shortly after the release of Kangana Ranaut’s film Emergency, where she portrayed former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Not only did Ranaut play the lead role, but she also directed, wrote, and produced the movie, which hit theaters on January 17.
Ranaut, who is also the BJP MP from Mandi, took to her Instagram Story to share a glimpse of the clapperboard from her upcoming untitled film, accompanied by a caption, “Nothing is more delightful than being on a film set.”
In 2023, Ranaut shared on X (formerly Twitter) that filming for her new project, a psychological thriller, had begun in Chennai. She mentioned that further details would be shared soon but asked for the support and blessings of her followers for this unique and exciting script.
Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency encountered multiple challenges prior to its release, including delays in obtaining certification from the CBFC. Despite these hurdles, the film has shown steady growth at the box office, especially benefiting from the Republic Day weekend. The political drama, which delves into the tumultuous Emergency period in India, has so far earned an estimated Rs 16.74 crore net.
The upcoming film will be directed by Vijay, with R Ravindran of Trident Arts producing it. Kangana Ranaut and R Madhavan, who previously collaborated in Aanand L Rai’s 2011 hit romantic comedy Tanu Weds Manu, will reunite for this project. The film’s success led to a sequel, Tanu Weds Manu Returns, in 2015. Madhavan’s recent work includes his role in the ZEE5 film Hisaab Barabar.
