Acclaimed actress Mona Singh has opened up about the grueling physical demands she faced while portraying Gurpreet Kaur Chaddha, the mother of Aamir Khan’s titular character in Laal Singh Chaddha. In a recent interview, Singh described the role as the most physically challenging of her career, requiring her to completely transform her lifestyle to authentically depict the character’s evolving age and health.
🎭 A Role That Demanded Total Commitment
“I had to be thin in the first half of the movie, put on weight in the middle to portray a woman in her mid-40s, and then lose it all to look fragile by the end,” Singh told The Indian Express, adding that the staged weight fluctuations were both physically and emotionally taxing.
Her transformation was so impactful that even filmmaker Farah Khan later remarked that Singh was “the best thing” in the film, praising her performance as more compelling than the leads.
🧘♀️ Lifestyle Overhaul and Resilience
Singh credited yoga, disciplined eating, and mental resilience for helping her navigate the demanding process. She previously revealed losing 15 kg in six months, guided by her yoga teacher’s philosophy:
“Jo din mein ek baar khate hai woh yogi hote hai… I didn’t want to be a rogi,” she quipped.
🌟 A Career of Reinvention
From her breakout role in Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin to her recent turn in Made in Heaven, Singh has consistently embraced roles that push her boundaries. She called her journey one of “resilience, reinvention, and rediscovery”, and expressed excitement for her upcoming crime drama Paan Parda Zarda.
