Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for 19 national highway projects worth ₹4,000 crore in Odisha on Thursday. The projects, aimed at enhancing connectivity and boosting infrastructure, span a total length of 105 kilometers across key districts, including Khurda, Puri, Ganjam, Kandhamal, and Nayagarh.
The event, held at Baramunda Maidan in Bhubaneswar, was attended by Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Deputy Chief Ministers Pravati Parida and KV Singh Deo, and other prominent leaders. Gadkari emphasized the transformative potential of these projects, stating that they would significantly improve mobility, trade, and economic growth in the region.
Key initiatives include the four-laning of the Banarpal-Godibandha stretch, the widening of the Daringbadi Ghat section on NH-59, and the expansion of NH-10 from Mangalpur to Kayangola. Additionally, four new bridges, with a combined length of 4.82 kilometers, will be constructed under the Central Road Infrastructure Fund to enhance regional accessibility.
Gadkari also inaugurated two completed sections of NH-59 and NH-130CD, covering a total of 44 kilometers and built at a cost of ₹841 crore. Speaking at the event, he reiterated the government’s commitment to modernizing highway infrastructure and announced plans for further expansion in Odisha.
These projects mark a significant milestone in Odisha’s development journey, promising to strengthen connectivity and drive industrial and tourism growth in the state. Local stakeholders have hailed the initiative as a landmark achievement in the region’s transport sector.
