Months after the passing of Ratan Tata, Noel Tata has announced a monumental investment of ₹91,000 crore to develop India’s first smart industrial city in Dholera, Gujarat. This ambitious project is set to transform the region into a global hub for advanced manufacturing and technology.
The Tata Group, under Noel Tata’s leadership, will establish a state-of-the-art semiconductor fabrication facility (Fab) in partnership with Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC). This AI-enabled Fab will have a production capacity of up to 50,000 wafers per month and will incorporate cutting-edge factory automation technologies, including data analytics and machine learning, to achieve industry-leading efficiency.
The facility will manufacture chips for applications in power management, artificial intelligence, automotive, and data storage, addressing the growing demand in these sectors. The project is expected to generate over 20,000 direct and indirect skilled jobs, significantly boosting the local economy.
Dholera, located near Ahmedabad, is being developed as a greenfield industrial city under the Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR) initiative. Spread over 920 square kilometers, the city will feature world-class infrastructure, including an international airport set to commence operations in July, a six-lane road connecting Ahmedabad to Dholera, and advanced urban amenities.
This investment marks a significant milestone in India’s journey toward becoming a global leader in semiconductor manufacturing and smart city development. Stay tuned for more updates on this transformative project and its impact on India’s industrial landscape.
