Power Grid wins bid under TBCB for two inter-state transmission projects

State-owned electric utility company Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Power Grid) has been named the successful bidder under the Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process for two significant projects aimed at enhancing India’s Inter-State Transmission System, the company announced on Monday.

The projects, to be executed under the Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer (BOOT) model, involve key upgrades to substations in Gujarat and Karnataka.

The first project will involve augmentation of transformation capacity at KPS1 and KPS2 (Phase-V, Part B1 & B2): This project will augment transformation capacity at under-construction substations in Gujarat.

The first project will involve augmentation of transformation capacity at Bidar PS: The project includes the installation of 3×500 MVA, 400/220kV ICTs and 1×1500 MVA, 765/400kV ICT at a substation in Karnataka.

Power Grid received the Letter of Intent (LoI) for both projects on January 6, 2025. The development is part of the company’s efforts to strengthen the nation’s power transmission infrastructure.

Headquartered in Gurugram, the electric utility firm is responsible for the transmission of electricity across the country. Power Grid operates and maintains the National Grid, which is the interconnected network for delivering electricity from suppliers to consumers. The company is also involved in the construction and operation of interstate transmission systems and provides consultancy services in the transmission sector.

Shares of Power Grid ended 3% lower at ₹306.60 on the BSE on Monday.
