Punjab Kings Create History with Record-Breaking Victory Over Kolkata Knight Riders

In a thrilling encounter at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Punjab Kings (PBKS) etched their name in the record books by defending the lowest-ever total in the tournament’s history. The match, held at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Cricket Stadium in Mohali, saw PBKS secure a dramatic 16-run victory over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), propelling them to fourth place in the points table.

Batting first, PBKS faced a challenging start, collapsing from a promising 39/0 to being bowled out for a modest 111 runs in just 15.3 overs. Harshit Rana (3/25), Varun Chakravarthy, and Sunil Narine played pivotal roles in dismantling the PBKS batting lineup. Despite the setback, Priyansh Arya (22) and Prabhsimran Singh (30) provided some resistance at the top.

KKR, chasing a seemingly achievable target, appeared to be in control at 60/2 in seven overs. However, PBKS’s Yuzvendra Chahal turned the game on its head with a stunning spell of 4/28, triggering a dramatic collapse. KKR were bowled out for just 95 runs in 15.1 overs, falling short by 16 runs.

This victory marked PBKS’s fourth win in six matches, boosting their playoff aspirations. The team now sits in fourth place with eight points and a net run rate of +0.172. Meanwhile, KKR, with three wins from seven matches, slipped to sixth place with a net run rate of +0.547.

The IPL 2025 points table is currently led by Gujarat Titans, followed by Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. PBKS’s historic win has added a new chapter to the league’s legacy, showcasing the unpredictable and thrilling nature of T20 cricket.
