Renowned actor R Madhavan has voiced his support for Bollywood’s decision to cancel film-related events in light of the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22. The attack, carried out by militants at Baisaran meadow, has been described as one of the deadliest in the region since the 2019 Pulwama strike.
Madhavan took to Instagram to express his grief and outrage, sharing a post that acknowledged the film industry’s collective response. The post highlighted that movie teasers, trailers, and launch events had been canceled, along with a major award ceremony and several brand launches, as a mark of respect for the victims and their families.
In a separate statement, Madhavan condemned the attack, calling it “horrifying, dismayed, aghast, deep shock and sadness”. He further demanded “revenge, retribution, payback”, urging authorities to “decimate, annihilate, and set an example” against the perpetrators.
The Indian government has since taken strong retaliatory measures, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty and closing the integrated checkpost at Attari, in response to Pakistan’s alleged support for cross-border terrorism.
Madhavan, who is currently starring in Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh, has received widespread support from fans and industry peers for his stance. His remarks reflect the growing sentiment within Bollywood, as the industry pauses to mourn and demand justice for the victims.
