Tripura West MP Biplab Kumar Deb has announced that the Ministry of Railways has approved a new train service between Agartala and Guwahati, marking a major boost for regional connectivity. The decision follows Deb’s discussions with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who confirmed the approval in an official letter.
New Train Route and Expected Benefits
The new train will operate between Agartala and Narangi (NNGE) station, located on the outskirts of Guwahati. While the schedule is yet to be released, the service is expected to:
- Ease passenger congestion on existing routes.
- Improve accessibility between Tripura and Assam.
- Strengthen socio-economic ties in the Northeast.
Electrification and Infrastructure Upgrades
Tripura recently received its first electric locomotive, as part of a ₹46 crore railway electrification project aimed at reducing diesel dependency and enhancing efficiency. The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) successfully conducted a trial run of an electric locomotive between Badarpur (Assam) and Jirania (Tripura) earlier this year.
