RCB Spin Bowling Coach Praises Devdutt Padikkal’s Hunger and Consistency

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) spin bowling coach Malolan Rangarajan has lauded young batter Devdutt Padikkal for his hunger and consistency in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Speaking ahead of RCB’s crucial clash against Delhi Capitals, Rangarajan expressed confidence in Padikkal’s ability to maintain his form as the tournament progresses.

Padikkal, who was acquired by RCB for ₹2 crores in the mega auction last year, has adapted well to his counter-attacking role at No. 3. The left-handed batter has scored 230 runs in eight matches so far, averaging 32.85 with a strike rate of over 156 and two half-centuries. His recent performances, including consecutive fifties against Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals, have solidified his position as a key player in RCB’s batting lineup.

Rangarajan highlighted Padikkal’s previous stint with RCB, where he played alongside Virat Kohli and delivered stellar performances in the 2020 and 2021 seasons. He acknowledged that Padikkal had faced a rough patch in recent years but emphasized that the franchise was keen on securing a left-handed batter during the auction, making Padikkal an ideal choice.

“He was very hungry and receptive to technical and tactical ideas from both Dinesh Karthik and Andy Flower. He has taken the bull by the horns and batted exceedingly well in tricky situations and conditions,” Rangarajan stated. He further added that while Padikkal’s performances have been impressive, the business end of the tournament is yet to come, and the team remains optimistic about his continued success.

RCB, currently placed third on the points table with six wins from nine matches, will look to build on their momentum as they face Delhi Capitals, who are positioned second with six wins and two losses. With Padikkal’s resurgence and the team’s strong lineup, RCB aims to secure a crucial victory in their upcoming fixture.
