Russian President Vladimir Putin has reaffirmed Moscow’s commitment to strengthening long-term economic cooperation with India, unveiling plans to finalize a comprehensive action plan through 2030. Speaking at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) 2025, Putin emphasized India’s role as a key strategic partner in Russia’s evolving global trade and investment framework.
🤝 India-Russia Economic Vision 2030
“We have already set a goal to boost oil and gas exports. To achieve this, we will develop relations with partners, remove trade barriers, explore new market niches, build infrastructure, and deepen investment cooperation,” Putin stated during the plenary session.
The action plan includes collaboration in energy, infrastructure, logistics, and technology, with a focus on removing trade barriers and expanding market access.
🇮🇳 India’s High-Level Participation
India was represented by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who addressed sessions on Artificial Intelligence and the India-Russia Business Forum. He highlighted India’s advancements in ethical AI, digital transformation, and railway modernization, aligning with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
Vaishnaw also held bilateral meetings with Russian ministers and industry leaders to explore joint ventures in transportation, IT, and infrastructure development.
🌍 A Multipolar Economic Order
Putin dismissed claims of a China-Russia axis, stating:
“A new world order is emerging naturally, like the rising sun… Our role is to formalize this process and ensure it aligns with the interests of the vast majority of nations”.
The SPIEF 2025, often dubbed the “Russian Davos,” was themed “Shared Values: The Foundation of Growth in a Multipolar World.”
